Lathi Charge at Hisar

The BJP government slept through the whole of last year. It abdicated all responsibility towards public health even though the pandemic raged. It did not even plan for vaccines because it thought the pandemic will go away. Now that the second wave has caused mayhem, it is trying to earn brownie points after 270,000 are dead, officially.

As part of this mindset, the Haryana CM ML Khattar went to Hisar to inaugurate a hospital. Breaking all COVID-19 protocol, he had gathered over 500 people on spot. The farmers opposed it. Farmers in Haryana have been opposing the BJP leaders through the last few months. Earlier also they have stopped Khattar from inaugurations and public meetings.

At Hisar today, the farmers broke multiple barricades to confront Khattar. The police lathi charged the farmers, used tear gas and plastic bullets. As a result, many farmers are injured. Farmer leaders Chaduni, Tikait, others are reaching the spot.

This shows the draconian face of the BJP government that itself flouts rules and is unable to face the people.

According to The Tribune 50 farmers and 20 policemen have sustained injuries. According to a video shared by an NDTV correspondent, farmers fleeing from police picked up stones to throw at police. According to farmer leaders many farmers have been arrested. Right now farmers are blocking the national highway but allowing all COVID-19 relief vehicles.

At 6 PM, Samyukt Kisan Morcha gives a call for gheraoing all Haryana police stations the next day. Number of injured farmers around 150, including elderly women. Number of detained farmers 100.

Late evening update: all detained farmers and vehicles have been released. The program to gherao police stations stands cancelled.
